My general plan was that as I hit Late Youth, music would take over from sex as my favourite activity. Nothing ever goes according to plan, of course.
During 2000 I wrote a lot of pieces using my Cubase and Roland 1010 synthesiser. I have now started to put some MP3 audio clips on this website. You can also read the lyrics and my descriptions of the songs.
The first collection of songs forms a symphonic sequence called Queer Spirituals.
I am also developing:
- A dozen songs connected with the novel I am writing, The Unwelding. These are also written for voice and synthetic orchestral sound.
|
I played an instrumental version of one of these songs on 4 May 2001 at a multimedia event organised by JONCTIONS as part of the Brussels Arts festival.
You can see the lyrics of this Song of cyberspace here. |
- Some further songs with the title Loose Canons Cabaret.
These all have a humorous or satirical angle. (Actually all my pieces have a good dose of humour, however serious the subjects.) I have put the words of one of them here so you can see an example.
- Some instrumental pieces. I have finished a short sonata for clarinet and piano. You can hear parts of it here.
Here's a thankyou to the musician Jyoti Mishra who has been very encouraging about my efforts, given me a lot of recording tips, and even lent me some equipment. He says I should start my own CD label and distribute over the WWW.
This is probably more than I can take on, but I certainly want to get some CD's finished and available for anyone who would enjoy my work. Thanks also to musician Tim Hall who writes 'I enjoyed the brief excerpts
very much.'
