Clarinet sonata in D

Andrew Hodges.

This sonata is in three short movements with an early twentieth-century sonority.

The first movement, in D minor with modal touches, is in a classic sonata form.

The second movement, a very short slow movement, is in a contrasting free-improvisation style without a key-centre.

The third movement is a fast rondo: the chromatic theme is played twice in D, once in E, and then back in D again. In between there are three contrasting episodes marked Coolly, Implacably, Viciously, and there is a very brief coda.

At the moment there are just two sound clips available.
